Six Sigma is not something that has a lot of history in the working world. Therefore, the application and hiring process is similar to other businesses, but there is really no set standard for how to prove that you're worthy of filling a Six Sigma position. Obviously your education and experience will play a part in your ability to land the job. However, beyond the common rules of demonstrating what you have done and what you can do for the company in the future, there isn't really a guideline to follow. There are a few things that can always help you to make the most of your career search, though.
Landing the Job - Six Sigma Careers and How to Get Them |
1- Show your work:
Hiring managers like to see proven results. Give them proof of how you created or helped to create financial successes for other companies with Six Sigma Projects.
2- Be a leader:
Six Sigma Training inherently teaches leadership skills and you need to show off those skills. They need to see that you can take what you've learned and apply it in any situation to come up with successful results.
3-Show future potential through concepts and examples.
Your experience opens the door, but your future abilities to succeed for the company that is hiring you will get you the rest of the way in.
4- You've got to have experience:
You can't even get the higher levels of Six Sigma Certification without experience, so this part should be easy. However, you still need to be sure to give them proof that you've got the experience that they need.
5- Skills, skills, skills.
Computer skills, communication skills (written AND verbal), and the ability to self-motivate and to motivate others are critical to your chances of landing the job. You've worked hard for your skills, now show them off!
Landing your dream career as a Six Sigma consultant might prove to be a challenging task. However, as long as you take the time to make sure that you've got what it takes to finish the job, you'll be much better off in the long run. There is no time like the present for you to take advantage of all the companies that are looking for assistance and put your skills to work. You know that you've got what it takes, so now is the time to show them that you're the right person for the job, no matter what.
